"He wasn't always like that... And in the beginning she would confuse abuse for care. But now she can't even tell what's safer: sustaining or attempting to leave?" I had the story in my head for some time. First, came the lyrics. I needed music that felt seductive but also menacing, intimidating. Regardless of my initial intentions, subtle melodies and a soothing feeling kept creeping in the song. Seems a part of me was unconsciously trying to comfort her. This is my own glance at domestic violence.
